Baton Rouge, LA – Knock Knock Children’s Museum is excited to announce Crash Creatives, a new summer art camp series designed to spark imagination, creativity, and confidence in young children through hands-on arts instruction.

The Crash Creatives camps will be offered in three age-specific, week-long sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Each week will culminate in a joyful Friday art show, where children can proudly share their creations with family and friends. Space is limited. Advance registration is required, and registrations are non-refundable.

The sessions take place:

  • July 6 – 10 for children ages 5 – 6
  • July 13 – 17 for children ages 7 – 8
  • July 20 – 24 for 4-year-olds

The camps will be taught by beloved and respected early childhood educator “Ms. Boo” Hoshman, who brings more than 40 years of classroom experience to the program. Known for her joyful, child-centered teaching style, Ms. Boo creates an environment where children feel safe to explore, experiment, and express themselves through art.

Campers will participate in hands-on art exploration in a wide range of artistic genres, including portraiture, still life, landscape, painting, drawing, and sculpture. Campers will explore concepts such as color, composition, form, texture, and artistic styles, including Impressionism, Modernism, Surrealism, and Louisiana Folk Art, through formal yet playful instruction. Throughout the camp, children will be introduced to the works and techniques of master artists such as Michelangelo, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alexander Calder, and Jackson Pollock, and regional artists including George Rodrigue. Here, children can make their own mini masterpieces!

Crash Creatives is an arts instruction initiative at Knock Knock Children’s Museum made possible in part by a generous anonymous donation, ensuring high-quality arts experiences remain accessible to children and families in our community. Arts instruction inspires creativity by giving children the freedom to explore ideas, materials, and emotions in open-ended ways. Through visual arts, children develop self-expression, imaginative risk-taking, problem-solving skills, and new ways of seeing the world—foundations for creative thinking and innovation. Each workshop is designed to meet children where they are, supporting early childhood development through joyful, high-energy, hands-on art experiences.

“As a trusted community hub for children and families, Knock Knock Children’s Museum is uniquely positioned to provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate arts instruction,” said Christina Melton, Executive Director of Knock Knock Children’s Museum. “Crash Creatives encourages children to ‘crash’ into creativity—trying something new and learning about fine arts, making bold choices, and learning that art doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.”
