Making & Tinkering: Best of Maker Shop Summer Camp
June 19-22 & July 17-20
Rising K-2nd grade
9 AM – Noon Daily
Join us this summer for a camp that explores the best of the best of Knock Knock Children’s Museum’s most popular Maker Shop activities.
Knock Knock’s Making & Tinkering Summer Camp lets children dive into a week of creative learning, thinking and doing. Engineer to create simple circuits; crack codes with real robots; problem solve to construct unique chain reactions and start it all with a big heap of imagination as you re-make it with found objects, cardboard boxes and more. Led by Knock Knock’s Dynamic Learning Innovation Team this camp will stretch your child’s thinking and develop all those problem-solving muscles.
Each day is designed to challenge and delight with opportunities for facilitated play in the Museum’s Learning Zones, as well as games, snacks, stories and adventures in our Big Backyard.
Tuesday – Re-Make It – Find the magic in a cardboard box. Discover a mural in repurposed banners. For Re-Make it day we will be getting to know each other and stretching our imaginations as well as our engineering skills.
Wednesday – Chain Reactions – Physics, Engineering, Critical Thinking, and Cause and Effect. I bet we can trick our campers to practice all of this and more. We will tinker with a marble run that will delight and amaze. We will end the day by creating a character to star in tomorrow’s movie.
Thursday – Make it Move – Make it move with stop motion animation. We’ll use our sculptures as characters and our boxes as the setting to develop a story. Through the magic of stop motion animation, they will see their creations come to life. They will also explore propulsion with a variety of handmade catapults. We’ll see how far they can make it move.
Friday – Simple Circuits and Mini Robotics – We’ll make their drawings glow and their sculptures move. Harnessing electricity and coding robots will allow us to combine art and technology in a way that reinforces the importance of both.
T- Shirts and a healthy snack will be provided. Campers need to bring a water bottle. This is a drop-off camp, special registration and parental authorization is required.
Space Limited to 12 campers.
