T3: Tinkering Time with Teachers
Let’s Get Moving! Simple Machines for Little Learners
Get ready to roll, lift, push, and play! This lively, hands-on workshop is designed for early childhood educators who want to bring the exciting world of making, tinkering, and engineering into their classrooms in a fun, engaging way.
We’ll break down the big ideas into bite-sized, joyful experiences perfect for curious little minds. From exploring ramps, wheels, and pulleys to discovering how everyday objects use simple machines, you’ll leave this workshop buzzing with ideas on how to incorporate the engineering design process into your curriculum.
You will:
- Discover the magic of simple machines—levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws, and wedges—through creative play.
- Search for and make your own simple machines and take part in group challenges that spark collaboration and problem-solving.
- Participate in a storybook-inspired engineering design challenge! Educators will collaborate to plan, create, test, and improve their structures, modeling the engineering design process children can use in the classroom.
