Captions
Both galleries and individual images can have captions. This does not work well in combination.
Column Count
A gallery where the columns value has not been adjusted will be responsive. and automatically create columns and rows to fit the correct number of items. This may not be reflected in the editor, so be sure to preview these changes on the front end. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to return a gallery to this state.
A gallery with the columns value adjusted will use that value at desktop sizes, and switch to half of that value on smaller displays.

Crop Images
This makes the gallery crop all images to be square.
