Powerful Collection of Children’ Books to Make Positive Impact on EBR Elementary Students

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System made history by being the first and only public school system in the country to have The Conscious Kid children’s book collection in every single public elementary school in the district. This profoundly unique collection of 40 children’s books is curated by The Conscious Kid and focuses on and celebrates diversity. The entire collection is written by Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and featuring BIPOC and LGBTQ+ characters and stories. Cedarcrest Southmoor Elementary School received the 54th and final set, ensuring every public elementary school student in East Baton Rouge has access to these life-affirming books.

The initiative is a partnership between  Line4Line,  Knock Knock Children’s Museumthe East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library, and theEast Baton Rouge Parish Public School System in a concerted effort to Support Conversations on Race, Racism, and Resistance. In all, the four partner organizations distributed 2,280 books just in time for the students’ return to school after their Christmas Break.
